Introduction:

Leisure Activity: listening to music

Prior to the study I thought both boys and girls can listen to music.

I thought this because:

            1) first of all both girls and boys find it fun  

2) music can be relaxing to both genders

3) music can make you forget about life issues, and this is good for both boys and girls

In the news (Google searches)  I have seen men portrayed as:

Quote words, explain meaning.

1) disruptive

2) like to party a lot

3) like rap songs

4) more male artists

In the news (Google Searches)  I have seen women portrayed as (in regards to my leisure activity)

Quote words, explain meaning

1) more emotional

2) boost their mood

3) depression is more common to women

4) they are more into dancing

Out of the first 10 articles that appeared during the Google article search:

6/10 discussed mostly women participating in listening to music

4/10 discussed mostly men participating in listening to music

Analyze: I can make the following statements about the way gender is portrayed in the media in regards to my leisure activity.

1) the percentage of men listening to music is 40%

2) the percentage of women listening to music is 60%

3) they both listen to music pretty much a lot, but have differents taste of music.

Out of the images I looked at, the percentage of images showing women doing my leisure activity is 6

Women were seen as:

1)listening to music in the hallway

2) while sleeping or even when they take shower

3) at the park

1) i learn that men and women are really when it came to listening to music

2) both listen to different type of music and don't listen to it all the time

3) women most likely listen to it everywhere and every time
